What type of Necro you want to play? Do you plan on having a secondary profession? There are many things one could suggest - you should state your preferences.

The idea of a necromancer "survivor" strikes me as slightly absurd.

I recommend using populationcontrol's N/W build as posted here

Or the improved version: Click Me

They are amazing.

I've always thought, based on my experience of actual survivors, that Arenanet should change the name of the title tiers.

1 could be "Chicken".
2 would be "I can run very fast from combat".
For 3 I'm thinking something truly epic. Something like, "I lived through the Searing and all the Charr ever saw was my back".

Survivors... nothing kills your party faster.

Now, as for an easy guide to obtaining survivor.

Fight monsters that pose absolutely no threat to you.

Generally, do nothing challenging whatsoever.

Be bored and nervous. Oh, the combination.

And above all else... never team with a human party. It's unfair.

LOL. But dying isn't exactly a badge of courage, unless you think DP is especially scary.

No, aggro-ignorance (sucking) is much faster.

LOL. Why even log-in? To me, the title only has meaning if you get it while playing through the natural course of the game.

Agreed. Unless you team up with friends that support the idea - it's best that you hench your way through Survivor.

^Reliable self-healing skills are a must. Having Monk as a secondary is a common choice. Ranger can be a useful as well.

Check here for more tips.

Survivor might be everything you said but for some people it's not.

I guess there are very few people that play like me:
http://pourbaix.free.fr/

And in my case, getting survivor l3 has some value.
Beeing a coward in a fight is better than dying. The main point is you have to prepare each fight. In my experience, I fall back when my healer is dead, or the whole group is dying, or I am simply beeing focused fire a lot and my healer can't handle it. It is simply "run or die".

While i can understand that some people will always try to achieve as many titles as possible, survivor is the one title i would refuse to pug with.
A survivor in the group is almost as large a liability as a mm with no self heal.

Yes, sadly you are right. Mostly because people that try to achieve survivor will leave at first danger.

I remember one mission, it was very tough and I almost died many times. In the end, we completed it and I told my team I was going survivor.
The monk said "you should have told me first, I would have paid attention to you".

I didn't want special favors because I'm going survivor. I need to get it in a normal way. ("normal" is not true if you read my hardcore rules ;-)

I went to DoA with my guildies on my LS who hasn't died yet.
And at the end I was pretty much the only one standing.

If we making silly generalizing statements - we can say that it makes no sense playing with somebody who doesn't have the survivor title because it shows that they lack the knowledge how to play the game without dying at the first sight of danger!
Dying is just punishment for making a very clear miscalculation of how the battle will play itself out.
It's PvE - foes have patrols, they have a pre-made skillset, the trigger on some certain conditions - so dying is a sign that one sucked at taking all those things into account!
One dies - because someone was better then the player.
And in PvE - that "someone" is the stupid AI!

So basically - anyone without the survivor title is dumber then Alesia.
Do you REALLY want to play with those kind of players?

Woo-hooo for generalizations!

Thats about my view on it, to get survivor the 'real' way you have to have complete knowledge of every area and mission in the game, along with a very strong set of builds that you can be sure will complete them. Usually you should go with heroes and henchies instead of players (unless you know them) because you can assure a specific level of skill. If you can't be sure of winning with a h/h group, someone you know can do it with you.

As for necro specific builds, SS and MM are well known because they are very useful in the vast majority of the game. SS's should always include [card]Enfeebling Blood[/card] which will lower the enemy physical damage immensely, while a MM simply has a wall that in front of the party and the best heal in the game for it: [card]Blood of the Master[/card]

On the other hand, there are a myriad of lame ways to get the title involving farming places through ways that prevent any chance of dieing even if a 2 year old was playing, but if you want to do it that way you can find them your self.

I myself have a toon with survivor, i didnt mean to get it, i wasnt aiming to get it, it just happened that i didnt die. Just checked and its still on 0 deaths.

That doesnt alter the fact that (and yes it is a sweeping generalization) the vast majority of times i have had a survivor in a pug they will leave if things get a little hairy or stay well out of the combat and leech.

IMO thats why most survivors use h/h if they are serious, though I often use pugs during easy areas where i'm sure i can win just with my 3 heroes.
I myself have 4 legendary survivors gotten from playing normally, sometimes with pugs but never leaving.

Well it's not my fault that they adore superior runes!
The dude can actually die. He's LS already so no waste there.
BUT what the survivor taught me is to be more careful of the environment. Check what is happening to the party, check what is happening to me, check what is happening to the foes. And always look for a way out. And if one sees that things are going wrong - not be afraid to use that way!
How does me staying in the battle for 2 seconds longer and getting killed help the party?
